Following the completion of the hull fabrication, Goltens Dubai carried out the launch of the Captain Arctic, an innovative near-zero emission exploration vessel designed for sustainable navigation in some of the planet’s most fragile environments.
This milestone marks the culmination of international collaboration between the vessel’s French owner, SELAR, the shipyard Chantier Naval de l’Ocean Indien (CNOI), based in Port Louis, and Goltens, combining advanced shipbuilding technologies with a shared commitment to decarbonization and responsible marine innovation.
The Captain Arctic represents a new era in environmentally friendly ship design. With a length of 69 meters, the vessel will primarily rely on renewable energy sources — harnessing wind propulsion through state-of-the-art rigid sails integrated with photovoltaic solar panels — to achieve up to a 90% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to conventional vessels.

The Goltens Dubai project encompassed the complete fabrication of the hull, the fabrication of the central mast, and the supply and installation of products such as watertight doors. With this launch, the project enters its next phase, which is outfitting, systems integration, and commissioning, bringing the Captain Arctic closer to its maiden voyage in Arctic waters.
