The Municipal Port Fund of Mykonos continues to work intensively on the restoration and modernization projects of the ports of that town. Recently, the restoration of the damaged docks at the Port of Tourlos was completed, allowing the docking of ships and vessels.
The mayor of Mykonos, Christos Veronis, referred to this new project in a personal capacity, highlighting that “the design of the New Port of Tourlos began as soon as I assumed the mayorship in 1991, following my tenure at the then Ministry of Environment, Public Works and Public Affairs. Its construction began in 1994 and it became operational in the year 2000. Of course, the works continued and are still ongoing.”
“We have created one of the most beautiful projects in Europe, classified as a Port of International Interest-Category K1. Now that we have returned to the municipal administration, I, as mayor, and Thanasis Megas, as president of the Municipal Port Fund, instead of dealing with the new and necessary modernization and improvement projects, we have spent two and a half years dedicating time to restoring it to a decent state,” added Mayor Veronis.
In relation to this same project, the president of the Port Fund of Mykonos, Ath. Kousathanas-Megas, stated that “the completion of the port infrastructure modernization projects and the capacity to receive larger vessels starting in 2028 mark the beginning of a new era. However, this new reality requires us to plan the future with responsibility, foresight and respect for the environment and society.”
“Our goal is to generate greater value for Mykonos through a sustainable development model that ensures a balance between economic progress, the protection of natural wealth and the preservation of the unique identity of our island,” concluded Kousathanas-Megas.
