Undeniably, Greek shipowners constitute the top actors of the global shipping industry. In a period of intense geopolitical ferment and rapid commercial realignments, their strategic foresight and flexibility in an unstable and unpredictable environment make them an international reference point.

This central role of Greek shipowners in international shipping is confirmed by data from the Allied shipbroking firm, which records the investment movements of shipowners worldwide in new ship orders and in the secondary market.

Specifically, over the last twelve months, orders by Greek interests amount to a total of 124, taking second place behind only China, which numbers 166. The lion’s share of the orders from Greek shipowners consists of containerships with 53 and tankers with 43, followed by bulk carriers and gas carriers with 11 and 10 orders respectively.

In the secondary market, the strategic flexibility and foresight of Greek shipowners is confirmed once again, as they are in the top step of the podium regarding ship sales and in second place regarding purchases. Specifically, over the last twelve months, 256 ships of Greek interests have changed hands. The top three is completed by Japan and China with 168 and 125 sales respectively. Conversely, 160 ships have been purchased by Greek shipowners. First place is held by China with 232 ship purchases and third place by Vietnam with 34.
