Recently, the painting workshop of Guangdong COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry completed the 4+4 coat special silicone paint application project on the hull of the container ship “HANSA LANKA”. Facing an urgent task, the workshop achieved a dual breakthrough in efficiency and quality within a 135-hour dock period.
After the “HANSA LANKA” entered the dock, the painting workshop quickly activated a coordinated operation mechanism. Restricted by the wharf berth and the ship’s draft, the removal of the old coating on the 7000㎡ hull, including the vertical flat bottom, had to be conducted entirely after the dock was raised, becoming a critical bottleneck for dock period control. To break through this constraint, the workshop optimized the allocation of ultra-high-pressure water jetting machines and robotic equipment, efficiently connecting each process step—completing the high-position hull rust removal ahead of schedule the next day, and commencing the first coat of paint application just 19 hours after the dock was raised, achieving a “speed acceleration” for the dock period.
During construction, the workshop innovatively adopted a parallel scheme of “high-position painting + flat bottom old coating removal”, seizing the night work window to tackle the vertical flat bottom construction. On the third day after entering the dock, both the removal of the old coating on the vertical flat bottom and the application of the first coat of paint were successfully concluded, one day ahead of the original plan. The entire process connected the working procedures through meticulous planning, fixing the total construction dock period, including ship docking and undocking, at 135 hours, 15 hours shorter than planned.
The shipowner expressed high recognition of the project results during the painting completion inspection on site. The successful completion of this task demonstrates the painting workshop of Guangdong COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry’s commitment to improving quality and efficiency.
