On May 8, CSSC Guangzhou Shipyard International held a naming ceremony for the 74,500-ton /product oil tanker Hull No. 1 and Hull No. 2 built for Norway’s Ocean Yield (OCY), with Hull No. 1 successfully completing the signing and delivery. It is understood that after delivery, this series of vessels will be operated by global petrochemical giant Braskem.
Accompanied by Mr. Hardi Schuck, CEO of Braskem, Mr. Andreas Reklev, COO of Ocean Yield, and Mr. Zhou Xuhui, Director and General Manager of CSSC Guangzhou Shipyard International, naming guests Ms. Renata Bley and Ms. Reginandra Silveira named the two vessels “BEAUTIFUL FUTURE” and “BLOOMING FUTURE” respectively. The naming ceremony was presided over by Mr. Kang Youping, Deputy General Manager of CSSC Guangzhou Shipyard International.
The four LR1 tankers in this project are benchmark projects marking the first cooperation between Guangzhou Shipyard International and Braskem. Through multi-party collaboration, the lead vessel was delivered 145 days ahead of schedule. This vessel type is tailored to Braskem’s operational needs, meets IMO Tier III emission standards and EEDI Phase 3 requirements, reserves space for dual-fuel retrofitting, and has obtained the RINA GreenStar 3 green class notation, making it a new-generation green and efficient flagship vessel type for Guangzhou Shipyard International.
This cooperation is a successful example of Guangzhou Shipyard International connecting with top international petrochemical giants and expanding high-quality leasing resources, providing a vivid model for China’s shipbuilding industry to “go global” with high quality, and serving as an important vehicle for pragmatic cooperation between the two parties. Guangzhou Shipyard International will uphold the original intention of cooperation, repay trust, and wish the two tankers smooth voyages and lasting friendship among all parties.
It is understood that this project marks Guangzhou Shipyard International’s first foray into the South American market, holding far-reaching significance for further expanding the global market. This vessel type is a new-generation LR1 tanker customized by Guangzhou Shipyard International according to the shipowner’s needs, with an overall length of 228 meters, a beam of 36 meters, a structural draft of 13.5 meters, and a service speed of 14.0 knots, with all performance indicators reaching leading industry levels.
It is worth mentioning that these two vessels are also the first LR1 tanker project built by Guangzhou Shipyard International on the platform line. The lead vessel was launched on February 8. The project team, leveraging lean management, scientifically coordinated construction plans, optimized process衔接, and implemented process forward shifting, efficiently completing all dock construction tasks in just 35 days. The vessel sailed for sea trials on schedule on March 30, achieving the “Guangzhou Shipyard Speed” that earned the shipowner’s admiration, setting a benchmark for the high-quality construction of subsequent vessels.
