Gulf Navigation Holding PJSC (Gulfnav) has signed a deal to recoat the cargo tanks of its two chemical tankers with Advanced Polymer Coatings’ MarineLINE

Following a cargo tank recoating project by Advanced Polymer Coatings (APC) undertaken in 2023 for Gulfnav on 45,920-dwt Gulf Fanatir and 45,967-dwt Gulf Huwaylat, APC’s MarineLINE has been chosen for the next project.

That project will see APC apply the MarineLINE tank coating system on 45,951-dwt Gulf Deffi and 45,907-dwt Gulf Jalmuda, both built in 2009.

The work will be carried out at IMC Shipyard in Zhoushan, China with APC providing specialist guidance led by its China-based engineering team.

The tankers carry a wide range of chemicals and the recoating work on all four vessels involves the traditional zinc and epoxy coating being replaced by MarineLINE.

In January 2024, Gulfnav set up a joint venture with Scorpio Services Holding, an associate company of the New York Stock Exchange-listed tanker company Scorpio Tanker Inc, under the name Black Marlin Ship Management & Operation (Black Marlin).

Black Marlin was launched in December 2023, with eight tankers, four from each partner.Gulfnav contributed the tankers Gulf Deffi, Gulf Jalmuda, Gulf Huwaylat and Gulf Fanatir.Scorpio Tankers injected four product tankers, which the company has recently purchased outright from the lease finance company: STI Donald C Trauscht, STI San Telmo, STI Esles II and STI Jardins.
