Hapag-Lloyd has partnered with PayCargo, a logistics payment platform, and Gnosis Freight, a provider of supply chain visibility software, to launch a new Container Payment Portal (CPP) designed to assist the company in managing import demurrage payments across US ports.
The container carrier will utilise the system to speed up cargo movement for customers and terminal operators, with features including real-time container status updates, automated invoice generation based on pickup date, and electronic payments and fee hold removals.
“In May 2024, revisions to demurrage and detention rules made by the US Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) went into effect, introducing new requirements for billing, timeframes, and the process for disputing unfair charges. The Container Payment Portal is designed to simplify compliance with these regulations,” said Jason Drouyor, Director of Regulatory Affairs at Hapag-Lloyd.
The portal will be phased in at major US ports throughout 2025, including: Houston, Virginia, Charleston, Savannah, Wilmington, New /New Jersey, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Miami, Mobile, New Orleans, Tampa, Jacksonville, Port Everglades, Seattle, Tacoma, Oakland, Long Beach, and Los Angeles.
