HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE) has marked a major advancement in the liquefied gas transport sector by successfully commercializing its next-generation Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Cargo Handling System (CHS). The innovative system recently demonstrated its reliability and efficiency during real-world operations, proving to be a game-changer for energy-efficient and environmentally responsible gas shipping.
Revolutionary Design and Operational Efficiency
HD KSOE’s newly commercialized LPG CHS was first installed on a vessel in August 2025 and completed its maiden cargo cycle by October. The ship loaded propane and butane in Houston, Texas, and safely discharged them in Ecuador, validating the system’s operational reliability.
The standout feature of this system is its Direct Fuel Supply System, which optimizes the use of reliquefied gas. Instead of returning all the vaporized gas to the storage tank, a portion is supplied directly as engine fuel, reducing waste and energy loss.
As a result, the new CHS achieves up to 18% higher reliquefaction efficiency compared to traditional systems. This innovation not only enhances fuel economy but also reduces carbon emissions, aligning with strict International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations.

Since receiving its first order in June 2023, the company has secured 48 shipset contracts, signaling strong confidence from shipowners worldwide.
