The Hasan Kemal Yardımcı Maritime Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, providing education in Rize, has qualified to participate in an important environmentally-focused project supported by the European Union. The Erasmus KA-210 project titled “Marine Pollution in Maritime Studies,” approved by the Turkish National Agency, is being implemented within the scope of an international cooperation to be carried out with three different European countries.

The first mobility of the project will take place in Spain. Students participating in this training program will conduct scientific research by observing water pollution on-site and will have the opportunity to work on marine ecosystems by meeting with experts. The program will also provide students with the opportunity to carry out joint studies with their peers from different countries.

In the later stages of the project, students and teachers will travel to Italy and Estonia to continue their field research. The goals include examining different practices in combating marine pollution on-site, increasing knowledge sharing between countries, and developing sustainability-focused education models.

Students from Europe will also come to Rize

The project does not only involve mobility from Turkey abroad. At the same time, students and teachers from schools in Spain, Italy, and Estonia will come to Rize to participate in various trainings and practices at the Hasan Kemal Yardımcı Maritime MTAL. Thus, a mutual learning network will be established.

With this project, Hasan Kemal Yardımcı Maritime MTAL strengthens international collaborations in maritime education while offering students a significant opportunity in terms of both scientific research and cultural interaction. The studies to be carried out within the scope of the project are expected to increase young people’s awareness of environmental sustainability and provide long-term contributions to Turkey’s maritime education.
