Orders for $1.46 billion strengthen the expansion of the Korean fleet and mark the largest container ship order for Hd Hyundai since 2007

Seoul – Hmm has once again chosen the domestic industry for its new naval expansion, awarding Hd Hyundai a $1.46 billion contract for eight 13,400 teu LNG dual-fuel container ships. Two ships will be built by Hd Hyundai Heavy Industries and the remaining six by Hd Hyundai Samho, with deliveries scheduled until the first half of 2029.

The order comes as Hmm has just surpassed the symbolic threshold of one million teu of operated capacity, doubling its volume in the last five years. The South Korean carrier is implementing a 23.5 trillion won ten-year expansion plan, which involves nearly doubling the container fleet and tripling the tanker and bulk fleets by 2030.

For Hd Hyundai, the new order represents the largest container ship order in the last 17 years, and confirms the group’s strategy focused on high-efficiency and low-emission ships.
