Norwegian company Höegh Evi, which specializes in regasification technologies and floating LNG terminals, announced cooperation with Italian companies Snam S.p.A. and HIGAS S.r.l. on the expansion and modernization of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) reception and storage terminal in the port of Oristano, Sardinia.

Höegh Evi will support the design, construction, and commissioning of a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU), which will become a key component of the future terminal.

The company, also a shareholder in HIGAS S.r.l., intends to work with its partners to improve access to LNG and natural gas in Sardinia, contributing to the diversification of Italy’s energy mix and strengthening the country’s energy security.

Earlier, Snam S.p.A. signed an agreement with the shareholders of HIGAS S.r.l. to begin exclusive negotiations for the potential acquisition of 100% of the company’s capital. Following the transaction, the existing coastal terminal is planned to be rebuilt and converted into a floating LNG terminal (FSRU) in close cooperation with Höegh Evi.
