PARIS, June 19 (Xinhua) — According to data released by maritime data company AXS Marine on the 19th, cited by French media, a total of 25 merchant ships traversed the Strait of Hormuz on the 18th, the highest single-day transit volume since mid-April.
French media, citing the data, reported that since the outbreak of the Iran conflict, some merchant ships have turned off their Automatic Identification Systems, so the actual transit volume on the 18th may have been higher.
According to AXS Marine data, since early March, the average daily transit volume through the Strait of Hormuz has been approximately 7.6 ships, compared to an average of about 110 ships per day before the conflict.
The United States and Iran released the official text of the memorandum of understanding reached between the two sides on the 17th. According to the text, after the memorandum is signed, the United States will immediately begin lifting the maritime blockade on Iran, and Iran will make every effort to arrange for merchant ships to travel safely and freely between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman within a 60-day period at no cost.
