The first hurricane to make landfall in the state of Florida, US, in 11 years is expected to do so early morning local time on Friday September 2, 2016, according to reports.
The storm despite having not made landfall has caused huge damage and disruption to the coastline upon which Port Tampa Bay is situated.
Hurricane Hermine has already battered the Florida coastline with rain and flooding and millions of people have either evacuated their homes or boarded them up to protect themselves.
Port Tampa Bay is in the direct line of the storm, and weather continues to worsen into early Friday morning as the 80mph wind category one hurricane travels up the gulf coast.
Local forecasters said there was a: “danger of life-threatening inundation within the next 12 to 24 hours along the Gulf Coast of Florida from Indian Pass to Longboat Key.”
One of the biggest concerns to the port and other infrastructure around it is the possibility of a hurricane to produce tornadoes with it.
In early August, 2016, hurricane Earl forced the closure of ports along the Mexican gulf coast, and had caused accidents which resulted in nine fatalities.
