On September 29, Imabari Shipbuilding announced on its official website that, in collaboration with Marubeni Corporation and its joint venture shipyard Nihon Shipyard, it has successfully secured an order for two 107,000 deadweight ton Aframax tankers from a Greek shipowner. The vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2027 and 2028, respectively.

Imabari Shipbuilding stated that to build a future-oriented production increase system, the company will reintroduce the giant modular construction method, which was used in the 2000s, to build these two Aframax tankers.

It is worth noting that this marks Imabari Shipbuilding’s first new order for Aframax tankers since their delivery in 2008, a gap of 17 years.

According to data tracked by the Longchuan Order Book, the main ship type for which Imabari Shipbuilding has received orders this year is bulk carriers, with a total of five contracts signed. These include two 40,000 deadweight ton bulk carriers for Japan’s Shinomiya Tanker, one 40,300 deadweight ton bulk carrier for Intercontinental Shipbuilding, one 64,000 deadweight ton bulk carrier for Greece’s Meadway Bulkers, and one 92,000 deadweight ton bulk carrier for Singapore’s Jaldhi Overseas.
