“Ships have already begun to transit under the plan,” said the spokesperson for the United Nations International Maritime Organization (IMO), refusing to provide details about the ships that crossed.

At least two dry bulk carriers and one cargo ship have transited through the Strait of Hormuz under the program in the last 12 hours, according to LSEG data.

Additionally, another 35 (at least) commercial vessels, mainly dry bulk carriers and container ships, were preparing to sail through the Strait, according to data from LSEG and MarineTraffic.

Notably, based on what the IMO announced on Tuesday, the plan, which took months to complete, will allow hundreds of ships with approximately 11,000 seafarers who have been trapped in the Gulf to sail through the Strait of Hormuz.
