In Focus: Superyacht security surveillance contracts for MARSS

Must read

In the wake of a successful 2023, marked by the completion of numerous major contracts, MARSS says it will be delivering its comprehensive CUAS and surface surveillance system, NiDAR, to two prestigious yachts — a primary vessel and its support ship.

MARSS says its NiDAR system protects assets and people, across all domains, including ships and yachts, critical infrastructure sites, operating bases, and civilian urban environments.

As the prime contractor to a 120+ metre yacht, alongside its 70+ metre support vessel (Oceanco and Damen Yachting shipyards respectively), MARSS will work closely with its partners, including Echodyne and others, to coordinate the installation and intelligent integration of multiple sensors.

NiDAR integrates with the vessels’ existing cameras and navigational systems to feed into a single tactical picture, delivering situational awareness and protection across surface and air domains (while utilising AI). The $4 million installation also encompasses an array of countermeasures including loud hailers and searchlights.

These contracts build on a successful 2023 for MARSS, involving the delivery of NiDAR systems on five ships. Those included three yachts ranging in size from 65 to 125 metres, one legacy yacht upgrade and the installation aboard the combat support ship, M/V Asterix, which provides at-sea support services for the Royal Canadian Navy.

“I am very proud of what the team has achieved during 2023, and these latest contract wins are testament to their dedication and NiDAR as an industry leading product,” says Frederik Giepmans, MD safety & security. “Securing these projects is a great start to 2024, and we look forward to bringing our NiDAR security systems to many more users over the course of this year and beyond.”
