The ship, owned by the Non-Profit Civil Company “Proteus Social Innovation & Development” based in Andros, will depart after the completion of the works in order to continue the educational program “EIDOTHEA Nautical Education”.
The “ALVEI” has a long and fascinating history, as it was built in 1920 in Scotland as a herring fishing lugger and in World War II it served as a minesweeper for the British Royal Navy.
The Hellenic Navy League, with President Georgios Alexandratos, welcomes the initiative, stressing that actions such as this substantially enhance the awareness of young people about the prospects of the naval profession and contribute to the dissemination of nautical education throughout the country.
