On the morning of the 21st, the Liberian-flagged vessel “Vangelis” berthed at Putian City’s Guotou Berth 9 in Fujian Province, unloading over 130,000 tons of coal.
Two days prior, the world’s largest 400,000-ton class iron ore vessel “Yuanjinhai” docked at the Luoyu Operation Area in Putian City, becoming the 50th giant ship of the same class to safely berth at this operation area since 2021.
Statistics from the Putian Exit-Entry Frontier Inspection Station show that in October 2025, the number of exit-entry vessels at Putian Port increased by 13.9% compared to the previous month, with the growth rate jumping to the top in Fujian Province.
Facing the rising vessel traffic, the Putian Frontier Inspection Station has focused on the construction of a “smart port,” operating a physical digital “intelligence” center, and fully implementing an “integrated inspection, full-chain service” model across 4 operation areas and 15 berths. The smart gangway system has reduced the single-person verification time from 1 minute to seconds, and drone patrols combined with maritime law enforcement inspections form a three-dimensional supervision network.
“Vessels can commence operations immediately upon arrival and experience zero-delay clearance upon departure; this has become the new normal at the port,” said Liu Jiming, instructor of the first duty team of the Putian Frontier Inspection Station. He added that currently, the coverage rate of smart inspection channels at port area checkpoints has reached 100%, and the coverage rate of intelligent data collection for personnel boarding and disembarking vessels has reached 100%.
Addressing the needs of cross-strait routes and bulk cargo vessels, the Putian Frontier Inspection Station implements a “one ship, one policy,” pre-screening information of personnel for shipboard operations and vessels requesting alongside berthing to save vessel port滞留 time. The Luoyu Operation Area has consistently ranked first on the mainland for its transshipment volume of iron ore to Taiwan for many years.
Lin Dinghuang, head of the Frontier Inspection Department of the Putian Frontier Inspection Station, stated that the Luoyu Operation Area is the first port on the southeast coast of the mainland to conduct direct maritime shipping of iron ore to Taiwan, effectively reducing the raw material logistics costs for Taiwanese steel enterprises and routinely promoting cross-strait shipping trade exchanges.
