It can simultaneously accommodate two car carriers
In the port of Port Said East, the new Suez Canal Automotive Terminal (SCAT) was inaugurated, the first port terminal for Egypt’s automotive segment that can simultaneously accommodate two car carrier ships and has an initial storage capacity of 2,550 cars, which can increase up to 10,000 vehicles. The company Suez Canal Automotive Terminal, which holds a 30-year concession contract (dated January 28, 2020), is jointly owned by the Japanese shipping group Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK), which holds 25% of the capital; by Africa Global Logistics (AGL) of the Swiss shipping group Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), which holds 50% and in 2022 had acquired Bolloré Africa Logistics, a founding partner of the joint venture (dated December 21, 2022); and by the Japanese Toyota Tsusho Corporation, which owns the remaining 25%.
