INFORM has announced that it will improve the Duisburg Gateway Terminal (DGT) operations with innovative Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based solutions.
According to INFORM, this collaboration focuses on using AI technology to simplify intermodal operations, pioneering Europe’s first CO2-neutral intermodal terminal in the heart of Duisburg’s port.
DGT is on course to become the largest intermodal terminal in the European hinterland, with a target annual throughput of 850,000 TEU.
The terminal, located on the ancient coal island in the Port of Duisburg, is innovatively designed and will be operated solely using crane systems and vehicles that do not use fossil fuels, avoiding traditional terminal equipment to reduce its environmental effect.
DGT, which covers 235,000 square metres, marks a historic step forward in the logistics industry, processing up to 1 million containers per year over six cranes and 12 rail lines, with daily operations for 20 trains, around 400 vehicles, and six ships.
INFORM revealed that the terminal’s first building phase will open in the summer of 2024, utilising its Syncrotess Intermodal Terminal Operating System (TOS).
