LIVORNO – Institutional visit to the OLT Offshore LNG Toscana Regasification Terminal (FSRU Toscana) by the Prefect of Livorno, Giancarlo Dionisi.
The meeting took place on Friday, November 28, as part of the institutional activities for the promotion and consolidation of territorial synergies, which Prefect Dionisi carries out to guarantee the rights, security, and well-being of citizens.
During the visit, Dionisi examined in depth the functioning of the infrastructure, the procedures adopted regarding safety and environmental protection, together with the strategic role the Terminal plays in the national energy supply.
Giancarlo Dionisi, Prefect of Livorno, stated: “The visit truly allowed me to realize, directly and unfiltered, the very high level of professionalism and the quality of management that characterize the FSRU Toscana Terminal. We are looking at an infrastructure that represents one of the works of greatest national interest for the security of energy supply, and seeing it in operation confirms how strategic, modern, and fully effective this investment is for our country. The Terminal’s ability to guarantee Italy a real diversification of sources is immediately striking, receiving LNG from a significant number of countries such as the United States, Algeria, Nigeria, and Congo, thus strengthening energy autonomy and the resilience of the system in an increasingly complex international context. An infrastructure like this concretely expands the energy range available to the country: LNG, easily transportable and with reduced emissions compared to other fossil fuels, represents an essential resource for a balanced energy transition based on mature and reliable technologies. I also greatly appreciated the value placed on safety: here it is not a formal obligation, but an identity trait of the company. From preventive maintenance to continuous training, from the use of advanced technologies to the involvement of all personnel, a clear culture of safety emerges that protects workers, the territory, and the environment in every phase of operations. The strong socioeconomic impact this reality has on the territory is equally evident: we are talking about stable and qualified employment and an estimated induced effect of about 600 million euros, a concrete contribution to local development that demonstrates how major works of this type can integrate positively with the community and generate value in the long term. I also found the commitment to sustainability and transparency significant, which translates into constant environmental monitoring, the adoption of the best available technologies, and reporting through tools such as the Sustainability Report, building a relationship of full trust with the territory. I can say, in conclusion, that we are truly looking at a national industrial excellence: an infrastructure that works, that guarantees security, sustainability, and development and that represents a far-sighted investment for Italy’s energy future.”
