James Fisher Tankship voyage operations manager Nicola Ellwood will be presenting the case study LNG as a marine fuel at the conference.
James Fisher has opted to use LNG as a marine fuel and has dual-fuel vessels on order.The first of the James Fisher Tankships’ 6,000-dwt LNG dual-fuel tankers, Sir John Fisher, entered service in December 2023, joining James Fisher Everard’s fleet in northwest Europe.
The tanker incorporates innovations in design and construction technology to enhance hydrodynamic performance, improve operational efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Sir John Fisher is equipped with highly efficient dual-fuel engines. The tanker, and its sister vessel Lady Maria Fisher, are able to run on liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a cleaner alternative to conventional marine gasoil.
Ms Ellwood’s presentation will share the practical challenges faced and what is being done to overcome them to enable the adoption of LNG as a marine fuel.
The case study will highlight several important aspects to consider when switching to LNG dual-fuel power.
“We have set up an infrastructure to take on bunkers,” said Ms Ellwood.
However, this challenge is not the most important operational learning from the switch to dual fuel for this small tanker operator.
