The Iranian Persian Gulf Strait Authority stated on June 19 local time that, in light of the signing of the Iran-US Memorandum of Understanding and directives from relevant authorities, the passage requirements for the Strait of Hormuz are hereby issued.

The requirements specifically include: within the specified time period, vessels that submit passage applications as required and meet the relevant conditions will be arranged for passage; vessel transit applications must be submitted at least 48 hours before arriving in the Strait of Hormuz area; within the 60-day period, fees related to security and environmental services, as well as vessel insurance costs associated with Iran, will not be charged to shipping companies and will be borne by the Iranian government.

The regulation also emphasizes that, due to the impact of mines in the area, it is necessary to ensure the safe passage of vessels and prevent collisions. Each vessel must follow the designated route and transit time before entering the strait. Consequences resulting from failure to comply with this regulation will be borne by the shipping company.

On June 17, the United States and Iran announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding and released the official text.

The document, titled the “Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran,” contains 14 articles detailing aspects such as the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

According to the text, Iran will ensure the free and safe passage of commercial vessels from the Persian Gulf to the Sea of Oman within a 60-day period after the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, and Iran will carry out mine clearance operations within 30 days.

The United States, immediately after the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, will begin lifting the maritime blockade on Iran, fully lifting it within 30 days, and commits to withdrawing its military forces from the areas surrounding Iran within 30 days after the final agreement is reached.
