Port of Cork Company a major milestone with the inclusion of the Port of Cork as a port of call on the CMA CGM Panama Direct transatlantic service.
The service was officially inaugurated with the maiden departure of the container ship MV CMA CGM LOUGA from Cork. This new weekly service establishes a direct connection between Cork and major US East Coast ports, including New York and Savannah, offering Irish exporters and importers a fixed and reliable schedule.
By offering a direct route, the service significantly reduces transit times and optimises logistics by eliminating the need for feeder connections via other European ports. Cargo can now reach New York in approximately nine days and Savannah in 11 days, providing faster and more efficient access for Irish exports to key US markets.
Ann Doherty, Chief Executive Officer of the Port of Cork Company, stated that “this announcement places Cork at the centre of transatlantic trade and will benefit the major exporters and importers in our region, highlighting the port’s growing capacity.”
Thanks to its location on the Atlantic coast and its proximity to key European and transatlantic routes, the Port of Cork already operates Ireland’s only other direct container shipping route between Ireland and the United States through a partnership with Independent Container Line (ICL).
