Italian container terminals, turnover exceeds one billion

In 2024, Italian container terminals recorded “a growth of 3.4% compared to the volume handled in 2023, marking a year of recovery after the difficult 2023, which had seen an overall decrease of 1.6% in TEUs handled compared to 2022.”

This was announced by Fedespedi, announcing the publication of the annual study that evaluates the economic-financial performance of 19 management companies of the main Italian container terminals during 2024, which together are worth

In terms of output “the best performances in terms of percentage traffic growth in 2024 were achieved by: Soteco (Società Terminal Container Napoli) with an increase of 32.8%., Terminal Flavio Gioia Napoli, with an increase of 21.7%., Sech Terminal Contenitori Porto di Genova, with a growth of 18.2%., Tiv Terminal Intermodale Venezia with an increase of 16.3%., Among the major terminals, significant performances were achieved by La Spezia Container Terminal and Medcenter Container Terminal Gioia Tauro, which both recorded an increase of 11.0%.”

From an economic-financial point of view “2024 was a year of recovery for Italian terminal companies, after the decline recorded in 2023. Total turnover grew by 8.1%, rising from 981.2 million euros in 2023 to 1,060.3 million euros in 2024. The companies with the highest percentage growth in turnover were Sech (+26%), Vado Gateway (Vado Ligure – Savona, +21%), and Mct (+16.1%). The aggregate final result also showed a strong recovery in 2024, reaching 111.6 million euros, with a positive variation of 42.4% compared to 2023. In 2024, the total number of employees employed by the terminal companies was 4,789 workers.”

Particularly negative in these terms were the performances of the new Ligurian terminals, Bettolo and Vado Gateway.
