Japanese shipping company Itochu Corp. has contracted two ultramax bulk carrier newbuilds from ship builder New Dayang, China.
The shipbuilding arm of state-run machinery manufacturer Sumec Group has not revealed the value but has stated that the deal was its second from Japan in 2024.
The yard in Jiangsu has had five ultramaxes in total booked by Japanese owners since January 2024.
Another dry bulk shipping company, Kasuga Kaiun, has booked three 64 100 DWT units for delivery in 2026 at around US$34 million each. Delivery dates for Itochu’s duo have not been divulged to the public.
