The Port Authority of Jamaica took a significant step to strengthen the country’s cruise industry with the completion of Phase 1 of the improvements at the Reynolds Pier in the Port of Ocho Rios.

The project, carried out on behalf of the Port Authority, focused on the expansion and reinforcement of the existing cruise terminal with the primary objective of allowing the berthing of larger vessels and supporting the continued growth of the tourism sector.

The Phase 1 works included a series of critical improvements. The existing cruise berth facility was optimized to increase its capacity and efficiency; a new state-of-the-art fender system was installed to protect both the vessels and the pier structure; six monopile dolphins and six mooring dolphins were added, essential elements for the positioning and secure mooring of large passenger ships, and the access way to the concrete trestle pier on the east side was expanded to improve operational logistics.

“Together, these improvements represent a crucial advancement for the Jamaican economy. They not only improve berthing efficiency and guarantee safer and more sustainable port operations for the coming years,” stated the Port Authority of Jamaica.
