Recently, Jiangxi Xinxiangsheng Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. successfully signed an order for five 120-meter LNG new energy ships, marking the company’s full recovery.
The newly contracted ships offer numerous core advantages. The new ships are powered by pure LNG fuel, enabling near-zero emissions of sulfur oxides, particulate matter and carbon dioxide, while their ultra-low energy consumption meets the highest environmental standards of the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI).
In terms of efficient design, the ship has a cargo capacity of 14,200 tons (or 603TEU containers), and adopts a dual-engine, dual-propeller and bow thruster configuration, which improves the ship’s maneuverability. At the same time, the new ship can reduce operating costs by 30%, and is expected to become a benchmark ship type for green shipping on the Yangtze River.
It is understood that the predecessor of Xinxiangsheng Shipbuilding is Jiujiang Xiangsheng Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. Faced with the development difficulties of the old shipyard, the Jiujiang Municipal Government listed the reorganization of Jiujiang Xiangsheng Shipbuilding as a municipal strategic project, and completed the asset reorganization by introducing strategic investors from Fujian, and officially established Jiangxi Xinxiangsheng Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. in 2024. At the same time, the company also simultaneously launched three major upgrades: hardware, intelligence, and green.
In terms of hardware transformation, a 400-ton large gantry crane (with span of 70 meters), a one-spray and three-coat workshop that meets international PSPC standards, an indoor section manufacturing workshop and a special stainless steel workshop were added; in terms of smart transformation, automated welding robot production lines have been introduced to establish a smart manufacturing system; in the green sector, the shipyard focus is on high-value-added ship types such as LNG-powered ships and chemical tankers, with annual production capacity increasing to 200,000 deadweight tons, and full-year output value reaching 2 billion yuan.
After the reorganization, Xinxiangsheng Shipbuilding has built a complete capability system. In terms of qualification certification, it holds the Jiangxi Province Class II Steel Shipbuilding Qualification, ISO Four-System Certification and /ABS and other international classification society certifications; in terms of technical accumulation, it has experience in building 50,000-ton unlimited-area oil and chemical tankers, /LNG ships, and offshore engineering ships, which will inject new momentum into the high-quality development of Jiangxi’s shipbuilding industry. ​
With the dual engines of intelligence and green technology, Xinshangsheng Shipbuilding has transformed itself from the brink of bankruptcy into a new regional shipbuilding force. The landing of this LNG ship order not only brought the company more than 100 million yuan in output value, but also validated the success of the government’s rescue plan and industrial upgrading path.
