An injury to a mooring handler on Naxos occurred on Wednesday evening, during the mooring of a passenger-car ferry (ro-pax) at the port, when a mooring line (hawser) struck the 30-year-old in the chest.

During the evening hours yesterday, the Port Authority of Naxos was informed about the injury of a 30-year-old local mooring handler, at the port of Naxos.

Specifically, during the mooring of a passenger-car ferry (ro-pax) ship at the port, one of the ship’s mooring lines (hawsers) swung while it was secured on the bitt, resulting in it striking the 30-year-old in the chest.

The aforementioned individual was received by an EKAB ambulance vehicle and transported to the Naxos Health Center, from which he was discharged the same day. A preliminary investigation is being conducted by the Naxos Port Authority.
