Kent secures work on Scottish offshore wind farm project Northland Power

Energy services group Kent has secured a contract to carry out pre-front-end engineering design (pre-FEED) assessment of the proposed Spiorad na Mara offshore wind farm in Scotland.

Formerly known as N4 project the Spiorad na Mara is located about 5-13km off the west coast of the Isle of Lewis and is owned by Northland Power (75.5%) and ESB (24.5%).

The contract covers a comprehensive assessment of the wind turbine foundation concept, selection, and foundation sizing, utilising site information available to ensure the foundation’s integrity and reliability.

The wind farm has a potential capacity of around 900 MW that could meet the average annual electricity needs of around 815,000 Scottish homes and save more than 1.36m tonnes of CO2 emissions every year. It will comprise up to 66 bottom-fixed wind turbines with construction expected to start in 2028.
