Klaipėdos Uostas has reached a milestone of 1 million standard containers handled this year, a record previously achieved only at the end of the year.

The port reached the mark earlier than ever before—at the beginning of October. Last year, the same result was recorded in mid-December, while in 2023 and 2022 it was reached only a few days before the year-end holidays.

“The fact that for the fourth year in a row we manage to reach the threshold of 1 million standard containers handled is clear evidence that Klaipėdos Uostas is an important player in the container handling market. One million is not the limit: the number after the decimal point grows every year. The loading curve rises when complex decisions are made, and work is done in coordination—when well-developed infrastructure meets professional use. When the conditions created by the Port Authority for business are combined with the efforts of container handling companies, the result reaches seven digits,” said Algis Latakas, General Director of the Klaipėdos Uostas Authority.

By the end of this year, the port expects to handle about 1.3 million TEU in total. In 2024, Klaipėdos Uostas handled 1,068,771 containers, and in 2023—1,050,804.

Recent infrastructure improvements, including the completion of navigation channel deepening works two years ago, have allowed the port to receive larger and more fully loaded ships.

Other projects have enhanced navigation and planning processes, reducing delays during unfavorable weather conditions. Since 2022, vessels carrying transshipment cargo arriving at Klaipėdos Uostas have benefited from a 100% discount on tonnage dues.

Klaipėdos Uostas (Klaipėda Port Authority) is the state-owned enterprise responsible for managing and developing Lithuania’s only seaport, located in Klaipėda on the Baltic Sea.
