During his opening greeting, the president of EVEP, Vasilis Korkidis, welcomed the representatives of 11 German and 43 Greek companies from the shipping sector, highlighting the importance of Greece-Germany cross-border cooperation in the strategic sector of the shipbuilding industry.

As he stressed, Piraeus constitutes a natural hub for the development of technological and business collaborations, capable of strengthening the competitiveness of European shipping and leading to an ecological and innovative shipbuilding era.

“Our Chamber firmly believes in the power of cross-border cooperation and in the creation of solid institutional and business bridges.

Through events like today’s, we strengthen the interconnection of businesses, promote investment opportunities, and contribute to the transition towards a more ecological and competitive shipbuilding future, bringing stakeholders from the Greek shipping industry in contact with top-technology German providers,” noted the president of EVEP.

As he added, “Piraeus maintains an ‘open door’ for developing collaborations with German companies,” focusing on its port, a fact that has already become clear-known from the two consecutive successful events in the recent past in the hospitable spaces of the Chamber, where once again Greek and German companies from the shipbuilding and repair sector, and not only, came into contact.

Mr. Korkidis also stated that the challenges for shipping and the shipbuilding industry are enormous, especially in this current conjuncture, where the Greek shipbuilding industry has irreversibly emerged from a long period of inertia, and the same for the European shipbuilding industry which saw its know-how relocate to Asia.

The president of EVEP said that the development of collaborations between Greek and German companies with a related focus on the production of materials and consumables for ships of all types will strengthen their presence, both in European and Asian units, with the primary principle being the quality of the produced products, for which both German and Greek companies are legendary, and will give impetus for the European shipbuilding industry to compete with the Asian one in the “green transition” of shipping.
