Kotug to deploy second tug for Guyana offshore development
SD Honour will support FPSOs in the Liza field Offshore Guyana

Kotug International’s local subsidiary Kotug Guyana was awarded a second tug contract by ExxonMobil affiliate Esso Exploration and Production Guyana Limited (EEPGL) to support operations offshore Guyana

The latest addition is the 120-tonne bollard pull tug SD Honour, which will join the fleet of dedicated offshore terminal tugs supporting ExxonMobil’s two Floating Production, Storage and Offloading units (FPSOs) offshore Guyana with static tow, push-pull duties and general offshore support to VLCCs taking offload cargo from the FPSOs.

Kotug International has been supporting EEPGL since October 2021 with the offshore terminal tug SD Power. Kotug CEO and President Ard-Jan Kooren said “Strengthened by the outstanding performance of the crew onboard the SD Power, we are proud to be able to contribute to the rapid growth of EEPGL ’s operations and continue our pleasant and transparent working relationship.”
“With our expertise and large fleet of Offshore Support Vessels, we can support offshore floating projects that emerge in response to rising energy demand at short notice,” he said.

EEPGL also awarded TechnipFMC an EPC contract for the gas-to-energy project this week, which comes on the back of Exxon’s latest hydrocarbon discovery in its Stabroek Block within the Yellowtail development. The discoveries are the sixth and seventh finds made in the block this year. And analyst Rystad Energy projects the Carribbean nation’s domestic hydrocarbon production will surpass the US$1Bn mark this year rising to US$7.5Bn annually by 2030.

ExxonMobil, which is the operator of the Guyana project, said the two FPSOs in the field — Liza Destiny and Liza Unity — have exceeded their initial combined production target of 340,000 barrels of oil per day.

SBM Offshore recently secured financing for a third FPSO for the Guyanese deepwater project.
