A new automated gate for La Spezia Container Terminal (LSCT) represents a further step in the digitalization and innovation of the site, for the Contship Group.

The project, developed in collaboration with the Eastern Ligurian Sea Port Authority and a technology partner, aims to streamline, make safer and more efficient the access to the terminal, thus improving the quality of the service offered to truck drivers.

Another important advantage is its impact on environmental sustainability, because the reduction of waiting times leads to a decrease in emissions.

Equipped with four access lanes, the terminal can manage all types of traffic, including special loads.

The new system uses high-resolution cameras and optical character recognition (OCR) technology, integrated into the GOS (Gate Operating System) software, which interacts with the LSCT TOS (Terminal Operating System).

The information collected allows for the automatic execution of the necessary technical checks for vehicles and their loads to access the operational area, guaranteeing high accuracy and streamlining the process.

The access and exit lanes are equipped with interactive totems, intercoms, barriers, traffic lights, and scales. All of this allows truck drivers to complete the entry procedures autonomously and safely.

The launch was preceded by a series of tests carried out during the summer and until October, with positive results thanks to the collaboration of the drivers.

“This project represents the first step in the innovation process of our entrance gate at La Spezia. It is a significant investment aimed at simplifying access procedures and improving the efficiency of our terminal operations. I want to thank the Port Authority and the LSCT team for their involvement in achieving this important goal,” stated Matthieu Gasselin, managing director of Contship.
