Heavy rain on Tuesday November 29th caused landslides
that blocked the main access route to the ports of Paranaguá and Antonina, according
to Portos do Paraná
In an update on Wednesday morning on its web site the
port said that that the road remained closed. Brazil’s Federal Highway Police have
asked drivers to avoid the road.
The blockage meant that, rather than the expected 400
lorries, only 141 entered the ports. Exports were not likely to be affected
before the end of the week because there was a fair amount of inventory at the
port waiting to be cleared. However, it said that if access was not restored by
the weekend, the port authority expected to be experiencing a shortage of
export cargo by Sunday or Monday.
