Largest Automated Terminal Powers on with Fourth Phase

A new aerial video by New China TV has shown the country’s progression with the fourth phase of the Shanghai Yangshan Deep Water Port, the biggest automated container terminal in the world.

The facility has a domestically developed automated management system and uses exclusively China-made automated machinery, including computer controlled overhead cranes, AGVs and rail-mounted gantry cranes.

Situated on Yangshan Island, the terminal is connects to the mainland by the world’s longest sea bridge.

A video released in December 2017 by New China TV showed the beginning of operational trials at the 2.23 million square meter sized port.

With a 2,350-meter shoreline, it has a capacity of 4 million TEU, but this will increase to an expected 6.3 million TEU upon completion, leading to its consolidation with the Port of Shanghai, which is the busiest container port in the world with an annual volume of 37 million TEU.
