Letonia: Puerto de Riga firma memorando de entendimiento con AD Ports Group

At the headquarters of the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA), a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between AD Ports Group and the Freeport of Riga Authority.

This agreement marks a new stage of cooperation in the fields of port development, logistics, industrial projects and digital solutions. AD Ports Group is one of the fastest growing infrastructure operators in the Middle East and has a strong international presence.

Minister of Economics Viktors Valainis stated that “I am pleased that my visit to the United Arab Emirates this autumn and my meeting with the management of AD Ports Group are already yielding the first tangible results. On that occasion, we analyzed in detail the development potential of the port of Riga, the investment opportunities and Latvia’s role in the region’s logistics chains. The memorandum signed today confirms that these conversations have become a concrete framework for cooperation.”

The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding was attended by Viktors Valainis, Minister of Economics of the Republic of Latvia; Abdulaziz Zayed Al Shamsi, Regional Executive Director of AD Ports Group; representatives of the Freeport of Riga Authority, the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA), port companies, as well as management teams from both parties and the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates.

According to AD Ports Group’s financial results for 2025, the company’s revenue reached 4.8 billion euros annually, while total assets amounted to approximately 16 billion euros, confirming its significant investment capacity and its key role in global supply chains.

Abdulaziz Zayed Al Shamsi, Regional Executive Director of AD Ports Group, stated that “the Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Freeport of Riga Authority represents a significant step in exploring opportunities in the Baltic region, a key strategic point for northern Europe. Latvia’s strong position in the maritime sector, its ambitious industrial development plans and its growing economic cooperation with the United Arab Emirates constitute a solid foundation for a long-term partnership.”

“Within the framework of this cooperation, we will assess how AD Ports Group’s integrated experience and expertise can contribute to the development of efficient commercial and logistics infrastructure that meets future needs, generating sustainable added value for both parties,” he added.

Sandis Steins, Chairman of the Board of the Freeport of Riga, indicated that “we greatly value AD Ports Group’s global experience and expertise in port management, special economic zone logistics, digitalization and project management, as well as its work in the cruise sector. We believe that this collaboration has great potential for growth and knowledge transfer, which will help the Port of Riga attract new investments, improve its services, increase the number of ships and passengers calling at the port and boost our joint position in the region.”

During their visit to Latvia, the company’s representatives were able to get a close look at the development projects of the Port of Riga, the potential of the port area, as well as the opportunities for long-term cooperation in the development of industrial and logistics projects.
