Specifically, there was one outgoing transit involving a cargo ship, while in the incoming traffic three tankers and three cargo ships were recorded. Among these ships, there was no Greek one.

Meanwhile, anchored without a crew remains off the coast of Oman the VLCC “Barakah” of ADNOC Logistics & Services, almost ten days after the attack it received from two Iranian drones during its passage towards the Strait of Hormuz, in yet another incident that highlights the high level of risk for international navigation in the area.

Maritime security sources reported to N that any attempt to tow the tanker is considered extremely high risk, under the fear of a new attack, while the ship remains without a crew after its organized abandonment immediately after the incident.

The incident occurred during the night hours of May 4, 2026, when the Liberia-flagged VLCC “Barakah” (IMO 9902615), owned by the UAE state oil company ADNOC, was reportedly struck by two UAVs during its entry into the Strait of Hormuz. The attack caused serious damage to the ship, resulting in it dropping anchor and being abandoned by its crew.

As became known, no crew member was injured, while the tanker was not carrying an oil cargo at the time of the attack. However, according to the company, a small quantity of fuel leaked into the sea due to the damage the ship sustained, which subsequently stopped.

Satellite images released on May 11 show the “Barakah” remaining immobilized in the area, while security sources report that the VLCC had previously participated in a secret cargo transfer east of the UAE to another tanker.

It is noted that Iran has characterized the UAE’s cooperation with the US as a threat to its “security and national interests,” with the Emirates responding that their defense collaborations are a “sovereign issue.” Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi states that there is “no doubt” that the UAE is an “active partner” in aggressive action against his country.
