CEO Dino Lorenzini confirms the imminent submission of the project financing application to start the process towards the new infrastructure of the port of Livorno
Livorno – The expression of interest for the project financing of the Darsena Europa will be completed by the end of the year. This was confirmed by Dino Lorenzini, CEO of Terminal Lorenzini, during the conference “Livorno and the Upper Tyrrhenian Sea. Between intermodality and innovation” held at Palazzo Pancaldi. Lorenzini explained that the group formed together with Msc and Gruppo Neri is finalizing the project necessary to request the concession, with the aim of delivering the documentation by December and allowing the Port System Authority to start the public tender.
According to Lorenzini, the Darsena Europa will represent a decisive element for the future of the Livorno port, allowing it to overcome historical problems such as complex access, a lack of maneuvering space, and drafts inadequate for the latest generation of ships. The new infrastructure will also allow for the concentration of container activities in a single dedicated area, freeing up surfaces currently used in a mixed manner and making them available for other commercial traffic, with benefits for operators and non-containerized goods.
The CEO reiterated that the success of the project depends on adequate rail and road connections, without which the Darsena Europa could risk losing effectiveness: the infrastructure must in fact be integrated into an efficient logistics system. The private project financing could exceed 400 million euros, a figure that would add to the approximately 550 million in public funds already allocated. The formal application, expected since the summer, is now in the final straight.
