LS Cable & System has completed construction of its fifth submarine cable plant, expanding its HVDC submarine cable production capacity by more than four times

LS Cable & System says that, with the new plant at Donghae-si, Gangwon-do completed, it now operates the largest HVDC cable production facility in Asia.

Combined with the recent decision by affiliate LS Marine Solution to build a dedicated HVDC cable-laying vessel, the new facility enables the company to establish itself as a turnkey provider of cable solutions.

“The addition of a vertical continuous vulcanisation (VCV) line to the fifth submarine cable plant has significantly improved production competitiveness and supply stability for submarine cables,” the company said.

“VCVs determine insulation quality and electrical stability, and are essential for the production of long-distance high-voltage cables hundreds of kilometres in length.”

The HVDC cable market is growing with the widespread adoption of offshore wind and increasing demand for long-distance power transmission.
