The virus-affected cruise ship MV Hondius is currently sailing up along the West African coast heading towards Antwerp, where it is expected to arrive on the morning of Monday, May 18.

All passengers and part of the crew left the cruise ship during the stop off Granadillo in the Canary Islands. Only 26 crew members remain on board, the number necessary to complete the voyage to the Netherlands, which is the ship’s flag state.

On Sunday, the ship arrived in Tenerife, where a team of doctors boarded to examine passengers and crew for signs of hantavirus.

At present, there have been eight confirmed infection cases on board the cruise ship – three of which have died.

On Monday, it emerged that 12 employees at a Dutch hospital have been placed in quarantine after a faulty blood sample was taken from one of the infected passengers.
