MacGregor has launched its patented Balanced Lashing System for container ships, saying the technology can allow owners to carry up to 10% more cargo on deck, according to the company.
The system uses elastic elements in the upper turnbuckle to spread forces across upper and lower lashing rods and twistlocks, with the aim of reducing broken container corners and lashing bar failures while increasing stack weights.
MacGregor said the system has completed two years of onboard testing, is already in commercial service and has been ordered for more than 100 forthcoming ships.
The product is available for container ships above 5,000 TEU with external lashing systems. It has approvals from DNV and ABS, while Lloyd’s Register approval is in process. “Our Balanced Lashing System answers the critical question of whether to prioritise safety or capacity by delivering both,” said Magnus Sjöberg, executive vice president at MacGregor.
