HANGZHOU, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) — On the 29th, 259 cases of high-end electric scooters from Zhejiang Dualt Wheel Vehicle Co., Ltd., which had completed container inspection, were loaded onto a ship bound for Barcelona. Unlike before, after these goods, valued at nearly 2 million yuan, were loaded into containers at their doorstep, they could rely on the sailing schedule information provided by the Zhejiang maritime department’s “Container Shipping Punctuality and Cost Reduction” plan to arrange land transportation in advance. This allows the outgoing containers to seamlessly connect with the intended vessel, enabling direct entry into the port, direct loading onto the ship, and direct dispatch abroad, achieving zero waiting time in land-sea combined transport—”shipping out immediately upon leaving the factory.”
The aforementioned company is a long-established export enterprise whose products are sold to more than 50 countries and regions worldwide. This was their first time experiencing a “door-to-door” logistics service where they didn’t have to manage the entire journey from their “doorstep” to the “port”.
“In the past, when we exported goods, we had no idea how long the containers would have to wait at the port before being loaded onto the ship. Take this shipment for example; for containers on a ship departing on the 29th, we had to pack and declare them at least 7 days in advance. After the goods arrived at the terminal, they still had to wait for inspection. This process generated many additional costs like pre-pull and container drop charges. Now, with the maritime department’s new ‘Three Direct Services’ and the ‘Container Shipping Punctuality and Cost Reduction’ plan, we only need to calculate the time and pack 2 days in advance. We don’t have to stack the goods in the yard waiting anymore, which saves a lot of cost,” said the company’s responsible person.
The improvement in logistics efficiency is attributed to the continuous innovation of the Zhejiang maritime department—by linking the new “Three Direct Services” with the “Container Shipping Punctuality and Cost Reduction” plan, enterprises exporting goods no longer need to spend time waiting for ship schedules or stacking goods. Goods can quickly connect with vessels right after leaving the factory, significantly enhancing export efficiency.
“For containers with tight ship schedules, we provide ‘tolerance for missing documents’ reports and on-site ‘simultaneous packing and inspection’ services. Simply put, while the enterprise is packing the container, we simultaneously complete the maritime inspection. At the same time, we ensure that vessels participating in the ‘Punctuality and Cost Reduction’ plan arrive at and berth in the port on time, allowing the containers to move from the enterprise’s shipment to loading onto the ship and departure from the port without needing to transfer containers or be additionally stored in the yard waiting,” explained Li Rui, a staff member of the Yiwu “Dry Port” maritime working group. “Going through this entire process not only helps enterprises save on logistics costs but also ensures the safe and compliant export of goods.”
It is reported that this first implementation of zero waiting time in land-sea combined transport for “New Three” goods marks that the Zhejiang maritime department has gradually broken down the linkage barriers between the new “Three Direct Services” and the “Container Shipping Punctuality and Cost Reduction” plan, achieving deep integration of the two. It also means that in the future, key goods exported from Zhejiang can replicate this efficient “door-to-door” model to easily achieve the goal of cost reduction and speed increase, helping Zhejiang foreign trade enterprises optimize their international logistics chains and enhance export competitiveness.
