Singapore shipbuilding group Seatrium announced that it has received a termination notice for the Wind Turbine Installation Vessel (WTIV) ordered from Maersk Offshore Wind in March 2022.
According to Seatrium, the WTIV is 98.9% complete and the contract value is 475 million dollars. The vessel was contracted by Maersk Offshore Wind with Sembcorp Marine Rigs & Floaters Ptd Ltd. Following the merger of Sembcorp Marine and Keppel Offshore & Marine, this company was renamed Seatrium Energy (International) (SEI).
The WTIV was being built for use at the 5 billion dollar Empire Wind 1 wind farm, developed by Norwegian Equinor off the coast of Long Island, New York. US President Donald Trump requested the Empire Wind 1 project be halted in April of this year, but work resumed in the second half of May.
Seatrium said that SEI will “explore viable solutions, including with the end customer Empire Offshore Wind.”
In a statement, Seatrium said, “SEI is currently reviewing the validity of the Termination Notice and the claims contained therein. SEI is also evaluating its legal and commercial options under the Contract, including the right to commence legal proceedings to challenge the Termination Notice /or for wrongful termination, and to pursue all available legal remedies.”
The Singapore shipyard did not disclose whether the Danish company had made any progress payments for the vessel.
