The fourth ship of the Hermes class marks a new step in the decarbonization strategy of the Danish group

Copenhagen- The company A.P. Moller – Maersk has announced the entry into the fleet of the Brisbane Maersk, the fourth unit of the Hermes-class series, built in collaboration with Hd Hyundai Heavy Industries and Everllence. The ship is equipped with a dual-fuel engine, capable of operating with both biomethanol and e-methanol, representing a further step forward in the company’s decarbonization path.

Maersk, a pioneer in testing alternative fuels, continues to explore new technologies and sustainable blends. In particular, the container ship Laura Maersk, the world’s first ship to sail powered by methanol, is testing a new fuel called E10, a blend of e-methanol and 10% ethanol. According to Peter NormarkSørensen, Senior FuelTransition Manager at Maersk, this solution aims to expand the availability and supply sources for the group’s dual-fuel fleet, confirming the Danish shipowner’s willingness to accelerate the energy transition in maritime transport
