According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, a magnitude 7.6 earthquake occurred in the waters east of Davao Oriental province in the southern Philippines at around 9:43 AM local time on October 10, with a focal depth of 10 kilometers. The Philippines issued a tsunami warning.

The report stated that the earthquake occurred at 9:43 AM local time, 20 kilometers east of Santiago, Philippines. The epicenter was located at 7.26 degrees north latitude and 126.75 degrees east longitude, with a focal depth of 58.1 kilometers.

The Chinese Consulate General in Davao, when responding to inquiries from a CGTN reporter, stated that the local tremor was noticeable.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology issued a tsunami warning, stating that due to the strong earthquake this morning (October 10), waves reaching one meter above normal tide levels are expected. The first tsunami wave is expected to arrive between 9:43 and 11:43 and will last for several hours. Residents in nearby coastal areas are advised to move to high ground and inland. Boats already docked in these areas should be secured and kept away from the coast, while boats already at sea should remain in deep waters.

Based on preliminary earthquake parameters, the Tsunami Warning Center of China’s Ministry of Natural Resources judged that the earthquake might trigger a local tsunami around the epicenter, but it would not cause a disastrous impact along China’s coast. The center will continue to track and analyze earthquake and tsunami monitoring data and release information promptly.
