Maher Terminals has introduced a new Edge platform and private wireless connectivity network at its Port Elizabeth facility in New Jersey, one of the busiest container terminals in North America.
The system, delivered by technology company Nokia, will provide connectivity for applications including yard management, crane operations, and gate processes at the terminal, which handles around 2 million containers annually.
“We chose the Nokia solution to enhance our wireless connectivity, security and scalability to improve our equipment’s network reliability and communications, as well as providing superior connectivity options as we deploy advanced cargo handling and identification capabilities,” said Laura Markham, CIO of Maher Terminals.
“The private wireless aspects also helped us meet our cybersecurity objectives in securing port operations.”
The deployment, carried out with Nokia partner Future Technologies Venture, includes the Nokia DAC private wireless system, MX Industrial Edge for computing at the terminal, ruggedised devices, device management software, and a Network Digital Twin for continuous performance monitoring.
