The Xunta de Galicia and the Port Authority of Marín will explore possible avenues of collaboration in environmental matters to optimize the operation of the facilities in the face of the challenges of global warming and to provide the best and most modern services to the companies operating there. This was agreed upon by the Minister of the Environment and Climate Change, Ángeles Vázquez, and the president of the port of Marín, José Benito Suárez, who held a meeting at the Pontevedra facilities to address various matters of interest within the framework of their competencies.

During the meeting, the representatives of the port administration conveyed to the minister the reference position that the port of Marín currently holds due to the implementation since 2013 of different environmental projects, some of them pioneering, related to the selective removal of waste derived from the fishing and port activities carried out there.

In this sense and as a result of the effort made for over a decade, the Port Authority currently valorizes 84% of all waste generated by the productive activities housed within its facilities, which are largely related to the processed fishery products sector. The minister, for her part, conveyed that she will analyze the possibilities of collaborating and participating in some of the environmental initiatives being developed by the port to optimize the sustainable operation of its facilities and the environmental care of the Ría de Pontevedra.
