General cargo ship Wenxiang (IMO 9549310) collided with a Japanese fishing vessel at around 01:00 Tokyo time on April 25th when some 50nm north of Niigata, Japan sea. The Wenxiang was reported to have been engaged in an offshore cargo operation in the collision area. After the accident it sailed to Niigata and anchored at Niigata anchorage
at around 12:00 Tokyo time. The fishing vessel also remained under way and sailed to its base port in Tsuruoka, north of Niigata. As of April 25th the Wenxiang was at anchor off Niigata.
2010-built, Panama-flagged, 1,970 gt Wenxiang is owned by Jin Xiang Shipping care of manager Weihai Weitong Marine shipping Co Ltd of Weihai, Shandong, China. It is entered with Steamship Mutual (Eastern Division) on behalf of Jinxiang Shipping Co Ltd.
A port worker was crushed to death by coal while loading bulk carrier ETG Aquarius (IMO 9928384) during the morning of April 25th local time. The vessel was berthed at Cashin Quay in Lyttelton, New Zealand. Three ambulances and two fire appliances responded to
the incident. The ship had arrived at the port on April 22nd, being en route from Tianjin. Maritime New Zealand is investigating the death, while the local police are conducting enquiries on behalf of the coroner. As of April 26th the vessel was underway from Lyttleton, New Zealand, to Newcastle, Australia, ETA May 1st.

Crude oil tanker Lia (IMO 9417751) collided with domestic general cargo ship Da Fa No.1 at around midnight April 25th/April 26th when the vessels were 15nm SE of Taitung port on the southeast Taiwan coast. The Da Fa No.1 was in full load, was breached, and sank. The crew went into the life raft and subsequently were rescued by a Taiwanese Coast Guard patrol boat. The Lia was en route from Singapore to Onsan, Korea. The Da Fa No.1 was en route from Taitung to Orchid Island, SE of Taitung, which meant that the coaster was likely
crossing the Lia’s course. The Lia stopped after the collision, and remained dead in the water for several hours, until the completion of investigation and other formalities. It was then allowed to resume its voyage, sailing at full speed to its port of destination, understood to have suffered only slight damage or no damage at all. As of April 26th the vessel was underway from Shuaiba, Kuwait to Onsan, Korea, ETA April 28th.
