Mawani announces maiden container shipment from Jubail to Riyadh via rail

Must read

To enhance connectivity between maritime and rail transport modes and boost logistics operations efficiency within the transportation and logistics system, the inaugural container shipment was dispatched from Jubail Commercial Port to Riyadh Dry Port.

Utilizing the railway link connecting Jubail Commercial Port to the East Train Network, a total of 78 TEUs were transported, with the railway capable of accommodating up to 140 TEUs per trip.

This significant achievement was a result of the collaborative efforts of key stakeholders including the Saudi Ports Authority “Mawani”, the Zakat, Tax, and Customs Authority “GAZT”, Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR), and the largest container line in the world MSC.

This milestone underscores the collaboration between “Mawani” and other relevant authorities, particularly “SAR”, facilitating seamless integration in container, bulk materials, and general cargo transport by establishing rail connections between ports, according to a statement.

SAR’s extensive network links Riyadh Dry Port with key ports including King Abdul Aziz Port in Dammam, King Fahd Industrial Port in Jubail, Jubail Commercial Port, and Ras Al-Khair Port.

The operation of the railway line strengthens the link between maritime and rail transport modes, amplifying logistics efficiency and solidifying the Kingdom’s stature as a global logistics hub spanning three continents. Furthermore, it elevates the standard of services at ports, introducing innovative logistics solutions that bolster the efficacy of both exports and imports.

This endeavour will provide logistical support to industrial and commercial ports within the Kingdom, boosting their competitiveness and bolstering trade movements through the provision of secure and sustainable solutions. These initiatives aim to reduce harmful emissions and help maintain the environment.

In early April, Mawani forged a partnership agreement with Saudi Arabia Railways to establish a unified framework and implement a comprehensive organizational and legislative model for cargo transportation between Mawani’s ports and railways. This initiative aligns seamlessly with the objectives outlined in the National Transport and Logistics Strategy “NTLS” and supports the vision laid out in Saudi Vision 2030.
